Salamis (Salamina) is the largest island in the Saronic golf and the closest to Attica. It is situated in the northern part of the Saronic golf and is separated by sea with Pachi (northwest) and with Piraeus (east), this part of the sea is called Elefsina Bay. The length of the coasts is 104 km, while the area of Salamina island reaches 95 km2 and the highest mountain is called Mavrovouni (365m).
As far as swimming is concerned, the best beaches of Salamina are Resti, Iliakti, Aianteio, Perani, Kiriza, Maroudi, Peristeria, Kolones, Satirli, Piriakoni, Kanakiani. Salamis has a population of 34160 citizens and belongs to Attica State and prefecture of Piraeus. Salamina island has two municipalities, Salamina Municipality (established 1835) and the Ampelakia Municipality (established 1998)

Transportation to and from Salanina is consistent, with Ferry Boats and Cruisers leaving from Perama port (Piraeus) to Paloukia port (Salamis) and vice versa every 15'. Also small cruisers leave from Piraeus main port to Salamina island every 30'. Restaurants, Ouzeri, Taverna, Cafeteria and bars are located everywhere on Salamis and play a basic role for the entertainment of the island and the visitors.
It was inaugurated in September of 1993 by the Minister of Culture at that time, Mrs. Anna-Psarouda-Mpenaki. It has a 3000 seating capacity and many different events are hosted in the theatre throughout the year.

480 B.C. The Persians in their conquest to conquer all of Europe had taken part of eastern Greece. After the Battle of Thermopylae where Leonidas and 300 Spartan soldiers died courageously defending their ideals and their country the Persian fleet sailed to the Saronic Gulf, and the Greek fleet sailed to Salamis.
