Travel Guide to Parga, Greece
Parga, the bride of Epirus, is a gorgeous large town in Preveza, with unique natural beauty, crystal clear seas, thick forests and small little houses built amphi-theatrically around a cliff. Its narrow stone paved ascending streets lined with its low houses with their beautiful gardens, are ideal for romantic walks and magical nights. The triple bays of Parga are enclosed by small lush green islets that provide their shade and cool breeze to thousands of vacationers that visit it each year. This graphic area with a population of 3000, is stretched across the Ionian coast under the shade of its mighty medieval fort, and can be singled out for its strong island character, its well formed little bays and its glorious beaches.

It is worth visiting the small island of Panagia opposite the beach of the large town, either by swimming across or by taking the small boat from the Parga beach. Enjoy the magnificent view from the castle that is in the medieval part of the town and visit the ecclesiastical museum in Parga where ecclesiastical heirlooms, vestments and the epitaph embroidered in gold, are exhibited. The sea caves in the Lichnos bay are also very interesting. You can also visit the cave of Aphrodite by boat. In the cape of Keladios, there is the monastery of Panagia Ton Vlachernon, which was built at the beginning of the 12th century by Anna Komnini.
If you wish to swim in crystal clear waters, the beaches of Krioneri, Loutra Tis Aphroditis (Aphrodite's baths), Lichnos, Valtos, Chrisopigi and Sarakiniko, are all ideal. Close by, there are also the beaches of Ammoudia, Keretza, Alonaki and Acheronas. Local Events Each year, on the 15th of August, the "Parginia" festival is organised, at which the return of the estranged natives of Parga in their boats to their homeland following liberation from the Ottoman Turks, is reenacted (boat rides with fireworks). The celebrations go on for three days with plenty of song and dance.
